Youth Summer Intern

 

Purpose of Position:

The Youth Intern position exists to provide a spiritually meaningful experience for youth interactions throughout the week, outside the regular church services, with the purpose of creating a bond among the youth and between the youth members and the ministry itself. These experiences should include weekly social activities, outreach venues, and discipleship and mentorship conversations.

 

The purpose will be achieved by pursuing the following goals:

  1. Spend personal time with different youth members each week, getting to know them, discussing the issues they have on their mind, and seeking to “model” a Christ-centered life-style. (1 hr/week/youth)
  2. Implementing spiritual disciplines in the lives of our youth by providing weekly accountability in areas of bible reading and prayer (other spiritual disciplines may be pursued as well). Develop an accountability system.
  3. Provide in the first week of the internship a summer plan of activities: social, outreach, spiritual.
  4. Plan regular outreach / service opportunities that are stimulating for inviting unchurched youth to participate.
  5. Plan regular social activities that are stimulating for inviting unchurched youth to participate.
  6. Encourage youth members to reach out to their friends and invite them to youth activities. We would like to see each of our youth reach out to at least two friends whom they invite on a regular basis to different summer youth venues.
  7. Youth intern shall read one book on youth ministry and discuss it with pastor / youth director.
  8. Get the parents involved in the youth activities and keep them informed about the plans and the progress we experience. Get a periodic email update to parents and church.
  9. Participate and lead our youth in a summer camp.
  10. Meet weekly with the pastor and/or youth director to discuss the youth ministry progress and challenges.
     

Qualifications:

  1. The person must have a personal relationship with Christ that is radiant and evident to those around him / her.
  2. The person must have a desire and passion to work with youth.
  3. The person must have a teachable spirit.
  4. The person must have some prior experience of working with youth or in other capacity in the local church, formally or informally.
  5. The person must have knowledge and experience in personal discipleship and mentorship.
     

Projected weekly time committment: 15-25 hours.
